The Best of Veggies & Co. Review

The Best of Veggies & Co.

My husband and I lived in Ardmore, Oklahoma for 2 years and we frequently ate at Veggies. The food at Veggies was nothing short of delicious. I honestly never had anything there I didn't like, and many of the recipes are (almost) "to die for."Mary has a way of making vegan food taste good for people who aren't used to it. Her Marinated Tofu, Cheezy Sauce, fajitas, and Mary's Marvelous Meatloaf are some of my favorites, to name just a few. Her pancakes, Spinach Lasagna, cashew gravy, and chicken-style seasoning are the best I've ever had. Whether you are an experienced vegan cook or trying vegan cooking for the first time, this cookbook will add many valuable and much-loved additions to your vegan recipe collection.

The Vegetarian Family Cookbook Review

Nava Atlas' brand new cookbook has given me motivation to cook again!! With two picky vegetarian children and no time to cook, it has been difficult lately to even think of meal ideas. Atlas' newest cookbook gives great suggestions, is designed to be a great time saver, and is perfect for vegetarian and vegan families. It is a wonderful addition to my family's bookshelf.
This book is easy to read and easy to use. It is divided into a number of sections including: Easy Breakfast Treats, Soothing Soups & Salads, Pasta, Tofu & Seitan, Vegetables and Grains, Easy Side dishes, Sandwiches and School Lunches, Healthy Snacks and Baked Goods.
I really appreciate that most of the recipes have easy-to-find ingredients and are simple to make. Many of Atlas' ingredients are already in your kitchen. Each recipe is clearly marked whether it contains dairy or eggs and most of the recipes include variations. I also love how she makes it easier for readers to plan meals by noting accompanying side dishes and their page numbers. This makes it so easy to serve a complete and delicious meal without frantically having to think of accompaniments.
In addition to the recipes, Atlas discusses vegetarian eating and other topics including pesticides in our food, the vegetarian food pyramid, and websites dedicated to vegetarian and vegan lifestyles.--Denise Steele-Darnell

Product Description:

Rising food prices, the slow food movement, and the green movement have revived interest in finding delicious food close to home. The backyard vegetable garden is making a comeback even in urban areas. Why grow grass (that you have to mow) when you can pick the best tasting tomatoes right outside your door? Taunton's Kitchen Gardener magazine was ahead of its time in trying to raise the bar on food prepared with home-grown food. The recipes collected here are innovative and tasty, and most are relatively simple to prepare. Not only do they help home gardeners find ways to make use of abundance, they show how to do it with style and expertise. The recipes apply equally to good seasonal buys in the supermarket or farmer's market as to produce from a home garden.
