The Aia Gluten and Dairy Free Cook Book Review

This is basically a collation of user-submitted recipes from a British web forum on the GFCF diet. There are definitely a few useful recipes in there, but they're not consistent--half use American measurements (cups and Tablespoons) and half use British (grams and ounces.) It's not impossible to convert the measurements yourself to whichever one you need, but it is an added step. In addition, there seems to have been very little thought given to culling and selecting the best recipes from the group. There are, for example, three separate "goulash" recipes which vary their measurements and ingredients a bit, but are certainly not different enough to consider each one a new dish. It leads one to believe they were either looking to fill pages or didn't want to offend anyone in this group effort. And, as with most gluten-free cookbooks, there is a large imbalance towards recipes for baked goods. These are important to know how to make, certainly, but this book will not answer the question "what can I serve for dinner?" nearly as well as some of the other GFCF cookbooks available. There is some redemption to be found in the candy-making section of the book, as well as the non-food-items section, both of which provide recipes that cannot easily be found elsewhere, but overall I would say the book is overpriced for the content it provides.

Product Description:
Containing over 400 gluten and dairy free recipes, the book will be invaluable to all those whose diet is restricted due to food intolerances. An increasing number of people on the autism spectrum are turning to the gluten and casein free diet and finding that many of the more troublesome symptoms are significantly alleviated. Coeliacs, and those with lactose and other intolerances, will also find a wealth of useful ideas for cooking without gluten or dairy products and expanding what may initially seem a very restrictive repertoire of possible meals.
