I was a 40 year old bachelor who had never cooked in his life. Then I encountered this book. When I picked it up and it fell open on a cross-sectional diagram of an egg, I knew that this was the book for me.
Too many cook books assume that the reader has some basic knowledge of the art.Not this one.If you want to know the best way to joint a chicken, quickly peel a tomato or a garlic clove, or de-seed a bell pepper, it's all in this highly entertaining book.
But don't think for a moment that the recipes are dull and simplistic. This book covers the whole gamut of cookery with recipes originating from the world's finest cuisines. The abundance of mouth watering illustations mean that you too can present meals that are a delight to the eye, as well as the tongue.
Thanks to Delia, cooking has become my hobby and I really look forward to those occasions when I can prepare a four course meal for 10 or more people.Fortunately, so do they!
Thank you Delia, thank you.

New England Soup Factory Cookbook: More Than 100 Recipes from the Nation's Best Purveyor of Fine Soup Review

New England Soup Factory Cookbook: More Than 100 Recipes from the Nation's Best Purveyor of Fine Soup

I am in love with this book. Many of my co-workers and I consider it a special treat on days we get to lunch at the New England Soup Factory (their Chili Con Carne is our collective favorite), so I was ecstatic to find a copy of their recipe book while browsing the bookstore over the weekend. And, yes, the Chili Con Carne recipe is included!

There are so many mouth-watering, rich, unique and comfort-food soups that I had a hard time deciding what to make first. From Potato, Crab and Gorgonzola to Apple, Onion and cheddar--they all sound so good! I decided on a vegetarian option: Spinach, Feta Cheese, and Toasted Pine Nut Soup. Not only was it delicious, but it was easy to make.

In addition to the seasonal soups, Druker has included a chapter of sandwiches and salads which are just as appetizing as the soups. (For example; The Fallwich, with sweet potatoes, cranberry mayonnaise, turkey and cashews.)

I know what I'll be getting my whole family for Christmas this year.

Italian Baking Secrets Review

Italian Baking Secrets

This book appears to be very closely related to 'The Italian Baker' copyright 1985 by Carol Field. In fact this may essentially be a "new edition" of that quarter century old book(?) The overall length is reduced, apparently by omitting some of the most obscure material and replacing or substantially rewriting chunks of the rest. Yet the similarities are huge. At least pages 18-55 are reprinted word for word (in the process changing the anecdotal "I" from a she to a he). And the table of contents is almost the same. I wish I knew more about the relationshipbetween the two books and between the two authors so I could better compare the highs and lows.
